Newstead hosts hundreds of Metro and Country Cyclists

2010 Victorian Metropolitan & Country Road Championships, Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 May, 2010 - Newstead. Review. The Castlemaine Cycling Club was host to over 350 cyclists this past weekend as the 2010 Victorian Metropolitan and Country Road Championships were staged in the Newstead area. Despite early light rain on Saturday, the weather cleared for the metro cyclists to provide cool but good racing conditions, with Sunday's wind bring the major challenge for the country cyclists. Racing was held across all age divisions from Under 11 to Masters, with the large fields setting the stage for great racing, and the gathered crowd was not disappointed, with many races coming to sprint finishes. The J11 and J13 riders raced an out and back course on the Newstead–Guildford Rd, with the remaining categories contesting a testing course around Newstead, Guildford, over the Guildford Plateau to Muckleford and back to the Newstead School. CycleSport Victoria would like to thank the Castlemaine Cycling Club for hosting the event and the many who assisted on the weekend, in particular the Newstead Primary School community. Cycling will return to the Newstead/Castlemaine community later in the year when the Victorian Masters Road Championships and other Time Trials will be contested in August. 2010 Metropolitan Champions
