Ballarat velodrome taking shape

Monday, 22 February 2010

380,000 velodrome upgrade project at Marty Busch Reserve in final stages.

The home of cycling in Ballarat is almost complete with the $380,000 velodrome upgrade project at Marty Busch Reserve in the final stages of completion.

The work, being completed by Convic Pty Ltd, has seen concrete applied in alternate sections.  The new surface will increase the thickness of the concrete resulting in the track bring exactly 250 metres per lap.

All reports say the new surface is just rough enough to be grippy and for cyclists not to worry as the striped colouration caused by different drying times of adjacent concrete sections will even out.

Weather permitting, the concrete work will be completed soon, with time for line marking and other finishing touches.

The Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club is pleased at the progress and looks forward to the opening by local Federal member of Parliament, Catherine King MP, on Tuesday March 2.
