CSV- Women's Cycling - Come N Try Sept Series 07
Come N Try Day
Sunday 2nd of September
Darebin International Sports Centre Velodrome
On
Sunday 2nd of September Cycle Sport Victoria, Rick Leonard and the
Brunswick Cycling Club conducted the first Women’s Come N Try Day for 2007. The
response to the day was very promising and the advertised two sessions were
fully booked with 25 women attending the first session and 23 attending the
second. For the majority of women it was their first time on both a track bike
and an indoor velodrome.
The day started with a demonstration from Rick Leonard on the differences between a track bike and a road bike. Rick then provided safety precautions and instructions to the participants before beginning the track riding activities.
The
participants were then advised to ride in small groups around the track with an
experienced track cyclist. The Brunswick Cycling Club provided a number of
riders for the day’s activities and these instructors rode with the participants
while they became familiar with the track.
CycleSport Victoria would like to thank the Brunswick Cycling Club and their members who assisted throughout the day and provided great tips on both technique and confidence when riding a track bike.
A
highlight of the day was when one of the participants had been eagerly been
riding around the bottom of the banks, but was determined to challenge herself
and ride
around
the top of the track. When she achieved this goal she was so excited and happy
with herself she shouted “I did it” which was very satisfying to Rick and the
other members involved
with the day.
The day was a great success with some very positive feedback from the participants thus far, CycleSport Victoria are now scheduling a Women’s Track Skills Series which will begin with a two hour session on Sunday September 23rd and conclude on Sunday November 4th. The seven week program will be advertised later this week and is sure to fill fast with only 20 spots available.
Thank you once again to Rick Leonard, Lawrence Maskill and the Brunswick Cycling Club members who provided their own time on the weekend to support Women in Cycling.
